Connecting iPads to wired internet connection

Requires

  • iPad 3+
  • Adaptors

Running your iPad with a wireless connection can work well for most. But if you are running a continuous application like Robin, in a space where frequent wifi drop offs are common you may want to consider hardwiring your iPads to run off an ethernet connection

What do I need to connect my iPad to a wired ethernet?

The iPad doesn't offer an ethernet port so you will need a few adapters. We’ve tested and confirmed the following set up, but other adapter configurations may work, too.

  1. Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter
  2. Apple USB Ethernet Adapter

iPad setup

Once you have the correct adapters setting up ethernet is simple.

  1. First disable both wifi and bluetooth on your iPad.
  2. Plug the lightning end of the lightning to USB camera adapter into the iPad.
  3. Connect the iPad power supply and usb ethernet adapter into the lightning to usb camera adapter.
  4. Lastly plug one end of the ethernet cable into the usb ethernet adapter, and the other end into your router or ethernet wall outlet.

After a few moments you can confirm your iPad is connected to the internet via wired ethernet connection when the "Ethernet" tab appears in the settings.
