Before you connect your Exchange account to Robin, create a service account with access to the shared resource calendars for your office.
What a service account is
A service account is a user account with one purpose: it gives a security context to services, such as your calendars, that run on a Windows server. Administrators can manage service accounts one by one to set the level of access that outside applications get.
You can create a service account and mailbox in 2 ways: with the Shell Method or the Console Method.
Create a service account in the shell
In the Exchange management shell, run this command:
New-Mailbox -UserPrincipalName booking@your_domain -Alias booking -Name Booking -OrganizationalUnit Users -FirstName Booking -LastName User -DisplayName "Booking User"
Replace 'your_domain' with the domain of your organization. The shell asks you to enter a password for the new user.
Create a service account in the Exchange console
The screenshots show Exchange 2007 and 2010, but the process is the same in Exchange 2013 and higher.
- On the Exchange Server, open the Exchange Management Console (EMC).
-
Go to Recipient Configuration > Mailbox.
-
In the "Actions" pane on the right, select "New Mailbox".
-
Select "User Mailbox".
-
Select "New User".
-
Enter the information to create the account and set up the service mailbox.
-
Enter an alias for the mailbox, such as "booking" or "service_account".
- Finish the setup. Exchange should then create the user.
Next step
After you set up your service account, make sure that it has the correct permissions to connect with Robin.
