Give visitors door access with Avigilon Alta (Openpath)

When you connect Avigilon Alta (formerly Openpath) to Robin, hosts can give a visitor temporary door access when they invite them. The visitor gets a link in their invite email. On the day of the visit, the link checks that the visitor is at the office and opens a web page with a button for each door. The visitor taps a button to unlock that door. The visitor does not need an app or an Avigilon Alta account.

Before you start

  • You need admin access in Robin.
  • Connect Avigilon Alta to Robin and map your doors to buildings. To do this, follow Avigilon (formerly Openpath) access control. You need an Avigilon Alta owner account to connect.
  • Set up a geofence for each building that gets visitor door access. Go to Manage > Offices, select the building and open the Check-in tab. Drag the building pin onto your office, then size the circle so it covers the building.

Set it up

  1. Go to Manage > Integrations.
  2. In the Access Control section, find Avigilon Alta and select Manage.
  3. In the Integration section, turn on Enable Visitor Door Access. It is off by default.
  4. In the door table, make sure each door that visitors use is linked to the right building.
  5. In the Allow access column, turn on the doors that visitors can open. This applies to every visit at that building.
  6. Select Save. Check the changes and select Save again.

If a building has no geofence, Robin shows a warning next to its doors and you cannot turn on Allow access for them. Select Configure building geofence to set one up, then come back and finish.

Give a visitor door access

  1. Create the visit as usual. See How to invite visitors to the workplace.
  2. Keep Send guest invite selected. The door access link is in the invite email.
  3. Select Enable Door Access.
  4. Select Create.

Choose door access when you create the visit. You cannot add it to a visit later.

A host only sees Enable Door Access when both of these are true:

  • The arrival building has doors mapped in Avigilon Alta and visitor door access is on.
  • The host has permission to give door access in that building. Admins, owners and location admins have it by default.

What your visitors get

  1. The visitor opens the link in their invite email on their phone.
  2. The page asks for their location, to make sure they are at the office. The visitor selects Verify my location and allows location access in the browser.
  3. The page shows when their access starts and ends, and a button for each door. Doors are grouped by floor when you mapped a floor.
  4. The visitor taps a door's button to unlock it.

How it works

  • The doors open only for a visitor who is inside the building's geofence.
  • Access starts 5 minutes before the visit's start time.
  • Access ends at the end of the visit day. The visit's end time does not change this.
  • If you cancel the visitor's invite, their access stops. Their link then shows that access was revoked.
  • Checking the visitor out does not stop access. It ends at the end of the visit day.
  • If you change the visit time, the access times do not change. To change them, cancel the invite and invite the visitor again.
  • Robin opens the doors through your Avigilon Alta account. Robin does not create an Avigilon Alta user for the visitor.
  • If you turn off Enable Visitor Door Access or disconnect Avigilon Alta, visitor links stop working.
