The Rooms app dims the screen's backlight automatically during your set office hours to save battery. To override the dimming, change the device-level brightness of your screens.
Expected battery life
If the room display has no dedicated connection to power, it can run on batteries.
Most consumer tablets (for example iPad) advertise up to 10 hours of use on a single charge. Robin's internal benchmarks match this. In Robin's tests, a 10,000 mAh external battery extended this time by about 3x, giving about 30-34 hours of uptime before the next charge.
These numbers assume both run 24/7. Many Robin customers with battery-only setups turn off the screens when they turn off the lights, especially on weekends.
iOS
On iPads, you do not need to do anything. Robin can dim the displays automatically. Adjust the brightness settings as needed from the web dashboard.
Android
On Android devices, Robin needs permission to access the device-level settings before it can dim the displays automatically.
-
Before you pair your display with a space, the app asks you to give Robin permission to access device-level brightness settings. This will only appear if the Rooms app doesn't have access to screen dimming yet.
-
Under "Allow modify system settings", set the toggle to "ON". Robin can then dim the display automatically at 7pm.
-
If you skip this step during display setup, you can give Robin permission later from the app. On the main display, select Space info, scroll to Software & System Info, and select it to grant permissions.
Display hours and screen brightness
By default, the display dims at 7pm and returns to full brightness at 6am. Admins can change these office hours in the web dashboard.
- Go to Manage > Offices, then select the location and space to update.
- On the Space Management page, scroll down to Room Display, and General.
Adjust display hours
The display is brighter during office hours and dims automatically outside them to save battery. Set the start and end times to change the hours for your space. Times use the tablet's local time zone.
Adjust screen brightness
By default, the displays brighten to 100% during the day so people can see them, and dim to 10% outside your office hours. Adjust the brightness settings as needed for your space.
Changes do not show on the display
Brightness settings apply automatically within 24 hours. To apply them sooner, restart the app. The brightness settings then take effect immediately.
